Sundays are for pastries and Tryon Creek

I have been wanting to try the new coffee shop down the road, so Brian and I headed out this morning to check it out. Happy to see a long line coming out of the entrance, signaling to us that all of Milwaukie is stoked to have a new spot for coffee and breakfast. This is Keeper Coffee’s second location and perfect for downtown Milwaukie. Pastries and coffee were insanely tasty, and we vowed to come back for breakfast when I wasn’t pressed for time. Today I planned to hike with my friend Dagny, who will be my backpacking buddy later this summer.

Dagny and I met around noon at the main entrance of Tryon Creek and after bumbling with our AllTrails app for a good five minutes, we headed to the trail. Not more than 2-3 minutes later, I realized we were off route and headed in a completely different direction. Meh, no biggie. Tryon Creek is a nice-sized State Park but nothing crazy, and all the trails weave and loop together, so we decided to just keep going and go where the trail leads us. Welp, that trail led us to a residential neighborhood in Lake Oswego. Oops! We meandered through the neighborhood, appreciating the beautiful homes and blooming magnolia trees until we reached the trailhead that would bring us back through Tryon.

The temperature was perfect. Maybe 65 degrees? The sun was shining through the trees and lighting up all the moss draped over the branches and fallen logs throughout the park. Other hikers and cute doggos passed by at times, some fast and serious, some strolling and enjoying the sunny spring day. We chatted about work, laughed a lot (Dags always makes me laugh), and started to talk through our end-of-summer backpacking trip.

It’s Sunday, and I don’t want the weekend to end. The last few days have been so good for my mind and my body. My countdown for next weekend has already begun…
